levocetirizine (LEE voe se TIR a zeen) i s generic but Claritin is over the counter it works equal
yes- the generic over the counter zyrtec (cetirizine- green and pallid boxes) is the same medicine, but the generic claritin (blue and white boxes) is usually several bucks cheaper, and is a very similar drug.
Zyrec (Cetirizine) in OTC. It is most closely related to Xyzal (Levocetirizine). The Xyzal is the levo (l-) enantiomer of cetirizine (basicly a moved out handed mirror image) thus Xyzal is LEVOcetirizine.

More and more pharmaceutical companies try to develop an enantiomer to an original drug, hoping to improve on it. Examples of drugs that are enantiomers:

Celexa (citalopram) and Lexapro (escitalopram)

Ritalin (Methylphenidate) and Focalin (dexmethylphenidate)

Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. Source(s): I am a medical student beside a specialist degree (Hons. BSc) in Pharmacology with a focus on psychopharmacology. I own interned under two psychiatrists and one neurologist. In addition I have worked as a pharmacy assistant.

Took Xyzal for two weeks
