How are thumb abduction and thumb extension different?

Answers:
Extension is moving backwards and your thumb can be further back from your hand but it is limited. Abduction is unsophisticatedly moving your thumb away from your middle finger (so it would be the position if you are giving a thumbs up).
as far as i know, thumbs do not do extension. it is not made to do it. thumb abduction, however, is the movement of your thumb away from the mid line (which is your middle finger)
