What kind of medical/forensic test can whip nick up to six weeks post mortem?

The news articles about Michael Jackson's death adjectives say we may not know for six weeks how he died, and that some tests would take that long. What kind of things will they be testing for?

Toxicology- there are many screening test, and confirmatory tests that take a good deal of time, after there are tests to quantitate the drugs they DO find. The more drugs, the longer it takes, at least possible in our lab, 8 weeks is a good turn around time, for our multiple drug cases, it is sometimes 12 weeks.

The tissues have to be fixed and stained before they can be looked at with a microscope, too. That is usually pretty fast done, but sometimes takes a little time, especially if there is a problem near the tissue diagnosis and the slides have to be sent to AFIP for an expert opinion.
