A possible complication of chronic pancreatitis occurs when the inflamed pancreas leaks the digestive enzymes it produces. Any organ or structure the fluid touches will be literally dissolved and there enjoy been people who have died from internal bleeding due to through arteries being eroded. This is a rare event but the more serious a person is an alcoholic the more predictable this can happen.

No, they aren't merely trying to scare him. If he keeps drinking, you will almost certainly be looking for a fresh boyfriend within five years. Five episodes is a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if he's actually have a flair of chronic pancreatitis at this stage.
it is serious (and painful)- it could kill him, but one of the more common cause of an alcoholics death is ruptured esophageal varices.
anything the doctors can say? dear, you know the answer to this- he isn't going to stop until he truly believes in his heart that the solitary place alcohol will take him is jails, institutions, and death.

Pancreatitis can be very severe and repeat episodes increase the risk of more damage. Severe pancreatitis may require surgical intervention in some cases. Alcoholism does not sustain in the healing process as alcoholics are usually malnourished and may enjoy liver disease as well. I have seen various pancreatitis patients in the ICU and some are severely ill and require mechanical freshening and many medications to keep them alive.
He wants to go to rehab for his alcoholism because it will only get worse and he is at big risk for many complications of alcoholism including liver failure, brain damage and some cancer. Source(s): PA surgical critical care
