How strong is Tylenol 3?

I'm in pretty bad pain after a dental appointment and be prescribed vicodin, however I happen to be allergic to it so they gave me Tylenol 3. It doesn't sound strong adequate... Is it a narcotic or comparable to vicodin strength?

I've taken both for back pain. They are comparable in misery relief. T3's have codeine in them, so pay attention if you're allergic to codeine.
