I in recent times took a melatonin pill and realize afterward that I am underage.?
I've been taking 3mg of melatonin for a while now to help next to my insomnia some nights, but it's not helping much, so I asked my dad to buy 5mg. He did, and I took one, and checked the bottle and it said "not intended for use by people under the age of 18." I'm 16. I assume I should be fine, but I only want to make sure. I've checked some sites pertaining to the side effects of melatonin, but none of them have mentioned underage people consuming it. I don't really mind if I attain a headache or something, I'm just checking to make sure this isn't potentially serious.

It's a natural supplement therefore not FDA approved - it's a liability issue. If you grow a horn they can say you be too young & didn't follow instructions therefore there is not settlement. Get it?
My husband have taken it for yrs - the only prob is your body become immune, or can at least. So use it sparingly so you always havesomething that works.
Also - never use near an OTC/Rx drug - If a supplement goes wrong it's typically when mixed with chemicals.
I help yourself to it and I'm under 18.
I'm perfectly healthy. :D
you should be just fine. freshly make sure you take the dose your dr. recommended. definitely not serious.
I took it when i was 16, I think its just a precaution the company take. but ask your doctor if you aren't sure.
I've be taking 3mg and 5mg Melatonin for years, and I'm 12. So... I should assume it's fine.
Store bought Melatonin is basically unprocessed herbs. It serves more of a placebo effect than any real benefits or drawbacks. True Melatonin is actually a chemical produced by your brain that make you enter sleep. There are prescription drugs that increase the amount of Melatonin that your brain produces, but anything that your Dad bought at the drugstore is not going to have any consequences. If they actually figure out how to bottle and deal in chemical Melatonin, it would basically be like chloroform knocking inhabitants out. Drug store melatonin is less dangerous than taking too much vitamin C. Don't worry and try to sleep okay. Source(s): 15+ years of chronic insomnia experience and treatment.
