Is near a proven correlation between murder rate and warmth?

I just read an article about this in times past couple of weeks, probably in the New York Times.
It is true that homicides increase during the summer, especially during a heat wave. The article explained that some of it could be explained by the facts that more inhabitants are out and about in warm weather, coupled next to higher alcohol consumption.
I have read that there are more homicides surrounded by hot climates and more suicides in cold climates. Sounds to me we should try to live in temperate zone.
