Do you know if hospitals or surgeries contained by the UK grasp medical reports transcribed overseas?
Do our hospitals get their doctors letters and reports transcribed overseas like the USA does for copious years? Is it possible to find a list of such hospitals or who can tell us about this side of hospital services?
Is anybody here enjoy any knowledge of medical transcription services or involved in such a service?
Answers:

Yes, the NHS gets all their packages etc written abroad. I belieive the NHS's current country of choice is the Philipines. Doctors dictate their reports/letters, then this is put onto a computer whizzed in the middle across the world, typed up then whizzed back. Its adjectives anomynous, the patient is only identified by their hospital number. I think some small doctor's surgeries may own local typists, but its pretty rare nowadays.
Just thought i'd clarify a few things, number one i'm a she!. I'm studying at St Georges Hospital in London, one of the biggest hospitals contained by the uk.
I've also found some info about other hospitals that outsource their dictated transcription;

I'm not saying that overseas transcription is good, basically that it is done. Source(s): medical student
I don't know where samkins is doing his training, but within my former hospital, one of the largest district general hospitals in the country, the consultants in adjectives specialties had secretaries in the hospital, who transcribed their dictated letters. I never hear of NHS consultants relying on overseas transcriptions. Source(s): 20 years as consultant in that hospital
I suggest that you contact BUPA. They should be able to help you fully answer this question
