Getting blood drawn tomorrow- should I drink?

I'm volunteering at a local hospital this summer. But before I start they need to be sure that I'm immune to hepatitis B. In order to find out, they requirement to test my blood to make sure the vaccine is effective. Is this something I should or should not put away before?

Also I've never gotten blood drawn before and I'm REALLLY scared. I know it lone pinches for a second when you get a shot but a shot is on your arm and these go right in the inside of your arm, where on earth the skin is more sensitive. Any tips? ):

Usually it's better not to get through before drawing blood, just in defence. But for the most part Hepatitis B tests have nought to do with blood glucose levels as far as I know. So it might not be necessary.

I've have blood drawn dozens of times. Believe me, it's a cinch. Yes it'll sting a little, but nothing dramatic. If you are a little squeamish almost looking at blood/needles, just look away. That will help with the misery too. If you don't see it, it probably won't hurt as much.
I think it depends on what the test preformed on the blood are going to be.Sometimes you should not eat sometimes you should. But for this situation im not so sure,i would not devour just to be on the safe side :D

Also when it comes to getting your blood drawn its not really as bad as it may appear,i do agree that for at least me i can be a big baby when it comes to anything with needles. What i do is in recent times take in a deep breath, turn my cranium away, and close my eyes. Its over before you know it :D.

As for the tuberculosis one i think i might have gotten it,but im cant remember. But i wouldn't verbs about it.

eat, eating has nought to do with getting a positive on those test.
ok first off, absolutely eat something before you have your blood taken or you will unbelievably dizzy, so eat a pretty decent meal.

TB try-out is really easy, they just prick you really quick and consequently it's over, then you come back two days later and if your arm is not crazy swollen next you're good Source(s): i've had the tb test done and one time after i have my blood drawn i felt really dizzy because i hadnt eaten in a while
i get blood drawn almost every month doesnt hurt at adjectives and its just a pinch

Dont eat, or at least i didnt dont drink any u should fast before it dont eat or drink for give or take a few 10 hours but u can drink water (i recommend this because its easier for them to find the vein
Getting blood drawn is not as bad as people say, or have a sneaking suspicion that. The hardest part, is when the cut off circulation to your arm.

I would suggest eating something LIGHT. A salad would work out fine. If you move about on an empty stomach, you will get light head, and possibly faint and/or vomit.

As for when they put the needle in your arm, ask them to put in the picture you when they are about to inject. When they are about to inject, take a reflective breath in, and when the needle is in, exhale echoingly. Believe me, it works wonders. Source(s): I get my blood drawn once a month to monitor PKD.
i've goten both..

and no, they dont hurt..
ur right bout a l il pinch but thats bassically adjectives..

good luck
hope i helped
you don't need to fast unless they're testing your blood sugar, which they're not, so you're ok to devour whatever.

the TB test is just another basic test. It's not a big deal. Don't worry, it's not as doomed to failure as you think. they'll let you know what they're going to be looking for. just quantity of the procedure! Source(s): been there done that
newly step in the office. No work needed.

It's not that big of a deal (if you wern't sure)
Drink some hydrating fluid with water and sugar like Gatorade or Iced Tea. No vitality drinks. Eat a teaspoon of sugar before you go. Buy a bag of cookies at your local grocery station or gas station within case they have no cookies there. Buy some Tootsie Pops. You are a touch dizzy for a few minutes after they draw it but then you are fine. It's no big deal.
eat a lot in the region of 1 hour before and drink at least 2 bottles of water in the past to. i did not to long ago and i passed out cause i didn't eat enough. take home sure that you eat and drink it will be worth it to.
You should definitely eat the light of day of your blood donation. Otherwise, you could feel lightheaded afterwards.

It's hardly painful. It hurts smaller quantity than an immunization shot at a doctor, and only for a split second.
I got those same exam done to work with children. Your fine if you want to eat. The doctor would have told you if at hand was specific things you were supposed to do to prepare for an appointment. Good luck, it won't be that bad, I promise!
did they tell you it be a FASTING blood draw ? if not, then don't fast.
Usually blood draws are NOT fast unless they're looking for something specific. TB tests are TINE tests...they poke you with a item that has 4 tines and if it reacts, it will turn red...that does NOT mean you enjoy TB, it just means you have be around someone with TB...TB can be seen on x-rays...
there are varied types of blood tests. some require fasting while others don't.

if you want a definite answer, next try calling the hospital.

i have monthly blood tests due to accutane, the person chooses a slightly firm spot close at hand the center of your inner arm. (generally where a hint of vein is visible)

i suggest NOT looking at the actual blood anyone drawn during the process. look forward... at something like a trash can or a seat. Source(s): experience
It is recommended that you avoid food and adjectives liquids except water for a minimum of 8 hours before anyone tested. Fasting for 10-12 hours prior to the blood draw is preferred.
You can put away.

As long as your not getting your sugar tested your fine.

I get my blood taken every 3 months because I have epilepsy.

Good-luck. Your doing a good entity!
it depends what your doctor tells you. if he/she says not to thn no, don't eat. if he/she didn't connotation about it, thn go ahead. if the nurse yells at u or something, freshly say what the doctor instucted you to do.
don't eat or drink anything at least possible 8 hrs before having a blood test!
u r not suppose to eat anything after 8 pm the day b4 u draw blood until after u draw blood.... i have my blood drawn 3 days ago and the doctor 1st made sure i didnt eat after 8 pm the day b4 i had my blood drawn.....
get a GOOD nd semi big nd stout breakfast cause food is what makes you produce more blood( suggest eggs nd some friut or something from denny's lol).after you get your blood out theyll produce you eat more nd drink something like juice nd munch through something like chips or cookies

when giving blood....if theyre playin music, then just start gettin into it nd lately look at the ceiling nd just RELAX =)
Yes, its prolly a good idea top eat so you can be full of strength. Taking blood take a lot out of you so be ready to eat afterwards too
If you're getting blood drawn, they will tell you in advance whether to guzzle or not. And they'll make it clear. It they're doing a cholesterol/thyroid test, that's the only time you'd have need of to fast. If you're unsure, best to talk to them beforehand. As soon as possible. Normally you have to promptly for about 2 days, and drink only water contained by that period. But don't do that unless you've been given specific instructions.

Also, I've had a TB tryout. It's just a small needle the doctor pokes just beneath the surface or your skin. Same as if a cat's claw snags you, but it's not deep enough to cause torment. You may not even feel it. Anyways, how it works is they inject a small amount of stuff under the skin, and see if it causes an irritation surrounded by the next couple of days. If the welt swells to a very colossal size, and shows obvious signs of inflamation, then you have TB. You should own nothing to worry about if you're a wholesome person.

There is another thing I should also tell you. There are cases where on earth if a mother becomes pregnant while she has TB, the baby could become a delivery service of it. It'd be in the bloodstream, but the person could never get it. Still, you'd achieve a false posative on the tests, every time. If your mother ever had TB during pregnancy, the same would be for you. The TB would be at hand, and show on the test, but you could never be affected by it or spread it. I don't know if that could be called an imperviousness, but if it is, it is. Source(s): My mother recently had a cholesterol test, and my Dad is artificial by TB in the way I described in the closing paragraph.
I just have that done today
they told me not to eat anything
however did they tell you that you have to be fast
I'd eat. I dontate blood, and although it doesn't bother me one bit, I see many race who are bothered by it. Mostly it's the thought/idea/sight of blood being drawn from your arm that bothers them more than the needle. If you're scared and feel you might not like it, I'd eat-not eating would increase the chances of you ratification out
eat or you will leave behind out for the tb it doesnt hurt at all, dont look at the needle
yes you should chomp through or you may pass out. and getting your blood drawn is no big deal don't worry more or less it. the tb test doesn't hurt either. Source(s): phlebotomist
Omg ima barf!
Eat Eat Eat! You NEED to eat. Drawing blood from your body deprives your body of nutrients and iron. I suggest taking an iron pill before going, and drink a lot of fluids. Dont verbs It hardly hurts, it just feels a bit wierd. Good Luck!
lol
well when i donate blood, you own to eat something before, and since you're getting your blood taken i'm going to asume you also should eat.. lots of iron too.. if i am right And the tb exam is really simple its just a shot and thats it. a few days later they check the spot and make sure its ok. its simple and doesn't hurt Source(s): meeee
