Why did you choose to jump into anesthesiology? (if Pangolin could answer this, it would be terrific!)?

Anyone out there who is, is going to be, or wants to go into anesthesiology, what made you pursue that specific nouns in the medical field? Pangolin, if you're reading this, I've read a large number of your answers to lots anesthesiology related questions and they're beyond wonderful! I'd be incredibly grateful if you shared something for this question!

Gee thanks (blushes)

I chose anesthesiology because, as a medical student doing my surgery rotation, I peeked over the drapes and notice that the anesthesiologists seemed a lot happier than the surgeons did. I did a month as a med student in anesthesia, and freshly fell in love with it. It suits my personality.

I resembling DOING things, and we get to do a lot, from intubations to epidurals to (my fave) spinals to nerve blocks and arterial lines and main lines and so on. There is also the intellectual side of applying the many different techniques and drugs to the individual patient to get hold of the safest, best anesthetic.

I also like the variety of being involved within every surgical specialty, plus gastroenterology and OB. Every day is different, so even if I have a bad or boring time in the future, I know the next day will at least diverge, and hopefully better.

I got very frustrated in internal drug when patients were non-compliant. In anesthesia, if I want a patient to have a drug, I draw it up and push it. Problem solved :)
I chose my specialty because mostly because I be fascinated by it and because of how enthusiastic my mentors were.

If my mentors were a fraction as enthusiastic and brilliant as Pangolin, I would certainly own pursued her field. She's extraordinary in her breadth of knowledge and desire to prepare with I find most impressive. Teachers like her are few and far between, so I would be honoredto own a prof. like her.
