Doctor's please answer this, Preferably Australian Doctors. - An appoitment tommrow.?

Hi all,

Would be great if you are a doctor and could offer me some advice.

When I be around the age of 18/19, (I'm male, and currently 23) I had depression and was put on some anti-depressants, but never stayed on them longer them 3/4 months.

I enjoy recently been back to the doctors and enjoy been placed on Anti-depressants, once again. I was first put on Lovan20 mg, and was reaction ok, but still depressed.

I then went back to the doctors for a review, a different doctor, I after again described my feelings and etc. This doctor said te medication I was put on, isn't correct and that he was going to switch me to another anti-depressant.

The doctor put my on Lexapro 10mg as a start stale point and told me this medication was for Anxiety and OCD, and would be more suitable for me. I then weaned off the Lovan20 and afterwards started to take the Lexapro 10mg.

On the Lexapro I was having impossible side effects, on-going for a full week, with no stop; extreem restlessness (would have around 1 hr sleep a night and constant on-off sleep), restless legs, sweating, Vivid dreams and shaking surrounded by the hands.

After 1 week, and not being able to put up near it anymore, I went back to the doctors, and was consequently switched from Lexapro to Zoloft 50mg, "once again as a start off point"

Here is my question:
Since being on the Zoloft I hold never felt worse in my life.

I hold been drinking non stop; some of the time, 3/4 beers a day, upto the point of a 6pk of Jimbeam - i have never drunk this much past. I'm also not eating much.

I feel that i am more F(a)#$ed up then I be before, after taking all these different medications, nonetheless I know they just increase the chemicals in the brain.

last week, I get so drunk and miserable, I reverted to when I was 18 (when i was 18, i burned myself with an oil-heater on the arm to release the morale and anger I had, to which I now have scare up my arm)

I was drunk, and got an oil-heater and really burnt myself; my arm have swelled lines and red scabbs up it from the burns, it's raw and starting to scar. A couple hours later when I be somewhat sobar, I couldn't believe what I had done, yes my anger was completly gone... but i believe I wouldn't have done this if I be not on the Zoloft.

I recieved a letter from my doctor to make a booking for a review of how I'm going on the medication... I am booked for tommrow - I get thhe thought that he thinks that I'm making alot of my feelings and stuff up, just the route he looks at me, and uhuh's me.

I need to know what will happen if i tell him around the burning myself nemourse times and well as alll the alcohole I have consumed since being put on Zoloft, and the amount of **** inkling I have had/ increased since being on it.

If I show the doctor my scaring, is he going to close to but in for some type of order for me to be locked up in a mental instuite? I don't know what to report to him tommrow.
Answers:
Anti depressant medications are a very individual thing - what works on one entity doesn't necessarily work on another person and some can make you feel worse. It is terrifically much a trial and error situation to find the right medication for you and it can take 6 weeks for a medication to start working.

It is unlikely that your doctor will have you held against your will for psychiatric treatment. We try and look after patients in the community as much as possible. They are singular detained against their will if the doctor believes they pose an imminent risk to themselves or someone else and cannot be managed in the community. So although you own resorted to hurting yourself, it sounds as though you do want treatment. It also sounds like it was only when you be drunk that you felt bad enough to hurt yourself.

It is vital to tell your doctor what has been up so that he can make sure you are receiving the treatment you need. You markedly need a different medication but perhaps it may be beneficial for him to refer you to a psychologist or psychiatrist.

If you feel that your GP doesn't listen to you, afterwards perhaps you need to find another GP. There are plenty of kind, kind GPs out there, and some do have a particular interest contained by mental health and will be happy to talk to you. It is significant that you find someone that you trust and can talk to and who you feel listens and take you seriously. Source(s): Doctor
im not a doc or anything but i reckon it would be a good idea to show them coz they'll pay attention and you'll return with better help. if they chuck u in an asylum its probably better for u but i can see why u wouldn't want that. they'll probably try to get u to move about to counselling if ur hurting urself.

i really have no idea i just feel like answering some q's that i have no idea almost :) Source(s): ur mum :)
