Would codeine from 1996 still be efective and risk-free to run ?

hello, i found a old bottle of codeine phosphate in my house and the expiery says 1996, would these still be impressive or safe to take ?

thanks
Answers:
No, this is not safe and sound to take. Drugs degrade over time and at best are ineffective, and at worst they become dangerous. Don't run a chance.
it depends. if the bottle has been air tight & contained by the dark, they may still be helpful. time degrades the power of the drug, but here is no harm in taking these degraded drugs. (some drugs, especially tetracycline degrade into detrimental chemicals, so be careful about other drugs,) but tylenol & codeine are very stable molecules. the singular thing "bad" is that they might not work....
You should throw them away. They won't be anymore treacherous but they probably won't work either.
that's 13 years man!
Would you drink old milk?
No you should dispose of it. Chemicals degrade over time so it really wouldn't be effective now and may not be safe.

How can you not know this?
Everything has a shelf life, and change it's characteristics over time, so no they will do you no good, and may even harm you.
No. The medication expired in 1996. Don't take it. It's a no no. Get it?
first of adjectives it does not require refrigeration and so will not go rotten like milk. At worst it will be weaker - but it will still work. Source(s): ex drug user especially pharmeceuticals - I have have morphine that was past its expiry date and was elevated as a kite for days
No, dispose of those. Do not take them, there's an expiration date for a basis.
