for chrissakes don't listen to anyone saying it's extremely uncertain.... the chemicals break down over time and become inert (useless) so the only way it would be death-defying is if the effect of the medicine was absolutely critical, approaching abx before procedure for folks with valve issues or nitroglycerine for someone next to chest pain..that kind of stuff..
puking won't be necessary Source(s): retired icu nurse..
The pharmacist would not recommend you help yourself to it since the tablets are old and that the actual amount of active drugs are no longer guaranteed by the manufacterers.
However, if you insist to take it, nearby will be no harm to it since the drug will not turn toxic because it has expired, only that the influential compound(s) may have changed or decrease in efficacy.
FYI, benzodiazepine breaks down into live metabolites of desmethyldiazepam, temazepam, and oxaxzepam where the latter 2 are used for the same purpose as diazepam. Source(s): Talked to a pharmacist and self-look up

NO. All drugs enjoy a shelf life, and ANY drug that's 24 years old is UNSAFE. The chemical components of these drugs degrade (break down) and can if truth be told become something else that could be potentially harmful. Don't take it.
