Can you still cart an expired medication of 3 months?

I was given a medicine sample but I discovered it be already expired for 3 months. I've heard from a friend that an expired medicine is still effective until 6 months. How true is this?

According to the study conducted by FDA in untimely 2000, most medicines - e.g. Tylenol, Advil, Aspirin - are safe and effective in good health past their expiration dates up to about a decade or more. All medicine will start to lose some of their potency once they go well past their expiration date, and some medicines like insulin, nitroglycerin, or liquid antibiotics will lose their potency massively fast past their expiration dates. The storage condition will hold a lot to do with how fast they lose their value, but most medicines - effectiveness aside - are safe to embezzle as long as they don’t show physical signs of deterioration. There are, however, few medicines that have been proven to be especially harmful when used past their expiration dates.

I cannot recommend you take expired medication since we live in a litigious society. But I personally wouldn’t mind taking 4 year bygone the expiration date Advil pills that have been sitting in my cabinet; however, if it is a drug that I don’t know deeply well or if my life depends on the full potency of one, I would throw it away.
Without knowing the Rx you are taking I would not reccomend it. In ANY instance, please do not cart expired medication. There is an expiration date for a reason. Would you drink expired milk? Source(s): Univ. Pharmacology
NO NEVER,
Think of this, you just see 2 cents and take a expired medicine, if that triggers a hypersensitivity you will have to spend 200 $ for health care plus the discomfort.

Medicine expired simply system it will not be as effective as it should be, the capacity of it is steadily decreasing.
it freshly gets weak when it expires. so you do not have to verbs about getting sick or anything. hope this helps.
Be well thought-out taking expired medication. Certain medications can gain or lose potency. There are a lot of factors that can effect medication. Heat, Light, Moisture, Time, etc. Expiration dates are printed for a reason. Generally speaking, if it were merely a couple days then it would probably be ok. But three months; I don't know. I would call a pharmacist just to be sure.
It depends on the specific medicine and how it be stored. Depending on these factors, it may still be effective, it may have lost its potency, or it could even be toxic.

Tetracycline, for example (a adjectives antibiotic), can seriously damage your kidneys if used after it expires.

Bottom line is, it would be risky and possibly harmful. Source(s): med conservatory
Every drug is different. Some just shift inert (dead) when they expire. Other drugs can breakdown chemically and become toxic. NEVER take expired drugs. If you have and are ok later you are lucky. You have no idea how dangerous it could be.
It depends.

Some medicines really do expire approximately when they say aloud they will and become toxic or simply ineffective. Some are good for months or even years after the labeled date.

There's no way to know. Pharmaceutical companies seldom bother to study this behavior and label various medications with almost completely arbitrary dates determined by one study of medicine in general done for the Army decades ago.

When in doubt buy fresh medication.
Yeah medicine doesn't expire for awhile
Most things hold an expiration date but are still good after the exp. date. The exp. date is there for you protection so that stuff doesn't sit on the store shelves for too long. Some meds. do loose their potentcy and become weeker so it would depent on the med and its purpose. If you have things approaching antibiotics that are liquid and prepared in the pharmacy then these do stay honest too long after the use by date plus your supposed to finish all of this kind of med if instructed to.
Yeah its ok, I take expired things.
