Questions more or less Strep Throat?
1) I've had a red, inflamed throat and tonsils with white puss for a little over a week very soon. I thought it might be strep since a close family member had it just this minute, however a colleague told me that cold-like symptoms usually indicate it isn't strep (I've also been coughing, wheezing, sneezing, and having a running nose).
Is it possible to have strep throat beside cold-like symptoms, or is it impossible?
2) If it isn't possible to have strep throat with cold-like symptoms, what might I have? I've never have a cold last this long. At most, a cold with fever ending 3-4 days. It's been 8 days and counting. Though my fever has be progressively subsiding, the pain in my throat is progressively increasing.

you could enjoy mono. The disease has the same symptoms except you will get nausea and decrease appetite, moderate fever and extreme fatigue. Go to the doctor just to make sure! Good luck!!
My daughter used to regularly get strep throat. Her symptoms were a sore throat, white patches at the vertebrae of her mouth, fever, and nausea. She would be given antibiotics by her doctor and that cleared it up. However, over time, the attacks became more frequent until finally, she was getting sick every week. Her doctor referred her to an ear, proboscis, throat specialist and he determined her tonsils had become totally rotten and needed to be removed. She had her tonsils taken out and hasn't had strep throat since.
Lack of cough is one of the Centor criteria (you may want to google that one) and makes it smaller amount likely to be strep, but it doesn't preclude the diagnosis, especially since you have a known contact. And while it's unlikely to own two illnesses at once, that's also far from impossible.
