Birth control expiration date?

I'm going on birth control later this week because my husband is coming home for R&R. We're not exactly trying to prevent pregnancy, just my period :). Well, I found birth control I took over a year ago and the expiration date say 10/12 and I don't know if that 12 is 2012 or October 12 of the year I got it. I'd like to think it's 2012 because I HATE waiting at the Army hospital for prescriptions lol. Anyone know which one it is?

I would also guess 2012...that would brand name more sense than not putting the expiration year on the package.
