i been on birth control since june 22, 2009 and i am finishing my first packet this week however i been taking Amoxicillin 500 mg three times a day since July 13, 2009 and i stoped July 15, 2009 . I know amoxicillin make the birth control less effective but for how long does it make it smaller amount effective?
My fiance and I are going to a getway this monday would i be safe if i don't use a condom?
Answers:
make sure you dont chance it.
Give it three to four days and continue taking you birth control pills and they should stay effective as long as you are finished with the amoxicillin.
Oral contraceptive efficacy is best when taken as directed with no medication interactions and no interruptions. Anything that interrupts the everyday use can be considered a risk for pregnancy for the duration of that cycle. You may be safe for this cycle since your antibiotics should only have be interfering for the first day or two of your cycle, but when it comes to birth control, there's "usually effective" and then there's "not always."
In other words, healthcare professionals usually err on the sheltered side and it would be best to use a secondary form of birth control (like condoms or maybe abstinence) until the beginning of your subsequent cycle.
Well, I got pregnant next to twins on Ortho after taking amoxicillin for two weeks. So, I'd wrap it up to be sure.
I know several women who have babies while on birth control and amoxicillin. Better not to chance it. I don't know how long the amoxi stays in your system.
