Doctor Working Hours (Docs Help!)?
Well, right now, I'm a Junior in High school and after much research and brainstorming, I've narrowed down my occupation choices to two
1.Doctor
2.Dentist
This is specifically under the "Doctor" category.
Med School seems dreadful and extremely stressful, so any info on Med School would be great.
In terms of specialty I'm amazingly open-minded and I like everything from Anesthesiology to Psychiatry . But honestly, I really have a great interest contained by Oncology :)
What i really want to know is which doctor specialty works basic 9-5 hours? I'm not going into medicine for the money, i know that it's going to take dedication and work I only just really would like time for a family and to go out and own vacations.
Basically, any specialty that can grant me 45 hrs a week, I'll consider it.
Also if there are any Oncologist out nearby, describe your job conditions. And do you like your job.

Seriously, though, being a physician isn't a job, like flipping burgers. It's a job, and a way of life. You work the hours that need to be worked.
Once you are elder and established, you may choose to work fewer hours, but you have to pay your dues first to grasp to that point.
If 9-5 is important to you, DO NOT go into medicine. It's an incredible commitment of time, money and stress. You pretty much hold to give your life over to it during med school and residency, and commonly during the first decade or so of practice. 45 hours a week - nope. You are NOT physician material.
BTW, almost every physician I know has a family and take vacations. I have 3 kids, and I just go overseas for 2 weeks earlier this month. You make time for what is important to you, and your ethnic group has to understand that you work a lot. It's the road it is.
Your assumption of medical school is right. It is extremely stressful and strenuous. So you need 4 years of college to get a bachelors and steal your MCATs to get into med school Its really competitive especially for the tops school. 8 years you'll spend studying and study to be given the name Doctor of Medicine. Oncology is a great specialty because it helps so many relatives with cancer. To specialize in that you'll need 3-5 years of residency and internships.
Honestly, a oncology doctor really doesn't hold a work hour of 9-5. There is still alot of doctors out there with families and enjoy time to go on vacations. You could probably have a 55- 60 hours if you become a more experienced doctor but not 45hrs. If you want a 45hrs a week consequently the closest is probably a dentist. They most likely work a 9-5 job.
Personally, It's up to you. If you want to have time for your family unit and vacation then a dentist the best choice. But a oncologist also has the time for here family and time for vacation, it's just that it may not be as much as the dentist.
In my belief, a oncologist would be my choice out of those two just because I like medicine and the disobey it brings. Dentistry doesn't have any excitement at all really. Fixing teeth and having to smell desperate breath each day is just not my entry. But family comes first right? Can't go wrong there.
Being a oncologist is insulting and you get to work with smart people adjectives day. I bet they love the jobs. I can't speak for oncologists because I'm not one ,but that is my assumption.
Being what you want to be. Dentist or Oncologist are both great profession. Respectable job and you get to help people. Give it your best and never grant up and you surely get what you want "Dr." :) Source(s): knowledge
