The MCAT is offered more than once per day some days but averages about twice a month in a minute that it is a computer exam rather than written. There can be a morning or afternoon exam depending on the day and location. The 1st year is was on the computer be offered 22 times per year (if there were 2 in 1 day-it counted as 2 offerings). Since 2007, you are set to 3 MCATs per year and you can only be registered for one at a time. For example, if you sign up for the April exam and want to retake it June, you need to wait to register until the April exam is done and hope for a spot to be enlarge at your location or forfeit your spot (and money) for the April exam to have a seat at the June testing. Medical school will see all scores from any MCATs you take and it take a little while to get the scores. Also, it is still a long and expensive interview so you wouldn't want to take it any more than you really have to.
It is offered a few times (about a dozen) yearly. You can rob it as many times as you want and can afford.
When it was still a written trial (up until 2 years ago, I believe), it was only offered 3 times a year; now it is offered frequent more times (certainly monthly, if not more), at many testing sites. Of course, it still take a while to get your scores back, so you would be restricted by that. However, you don't want to take it multiple times if possible - generally once is preferred, and twice is the max, surrounded by practical terms, and you have to be very sure that you certainly do better the second time than the first, as schools will get all of the score from every time you take it. If they see multiple scores, it sort of automatically throws up a red flag (twice, maybe you have a bad day the first time, more than that, something else is going on). Besides, you don't want to take it a bunch of times, it's really expensive, and frankly, freshly not a fun test... if you just want to practice, go buy some of the tons books that are out there, or even take one of the review courses (offered by Kaplan or Princeton Review, for instance) - those include regular practice tests, and though expensive, will conclusion up being less so than taking the actual exam multiple times and more importantly, won't hurt your application.
