Lactulose works by drawing water into your huge intestine, thereby increasing the volume and thereby triggering a process known as peristalsis, which ends up (hopefully) with a BM. Sometimes rather urgently and forcefully. Metamucil increases the bulk travelling through your massive intestine (it consists of undigestable fiber), which also triggers peristalsis. It is probably a more gentler approach.
You do not state your age, so I am going to assume that you are somewhere between 16 and 60. I am not sure if you are taking any sort of medications, which is important since some can cause constipation.
I am not sure how you explain "constipation." One does not need to have a BM every day contained by order to be healthy. Just an FYI.
Rather than medications, I would recommend that you first start beside a more conservative and comfortable approach. First, make sure that you are drinking enough water to stay very well hydrated. Water in your gut softens the stool and lubricates the lining so that BMs are easier. The second recommendation is to ensure that you carry enough exercise every day -- this is probably the most important factor within promoting good bowel health. Immobility causes the gut to slow down, and voila -- constipation. Source(s): RN
A stool softener would be my choice. The Metamucil is a fiber supplement and adds bulk; but, you want to increase the water intake as well or you create a more solid stool.
When all else fail, I prefer a 1 to 2 quart warm water enema with a teaspoon of saline per quart. I let it flow in very slowly and afterwards retain it for as long as possible. As little as a few minutes and occasionally for as long as an hour. It will soften the stool and provide the peristaltic action necessary for a moving experience. But, later that's just me and enemas are out of favor with most doctors.
Ask your doctor for Dulcolax, it is very good, and gives your bowel movements more compound to them. But it is a rectal suppository ... and, it does suck!! I will recognize that. =]
Good luck! Source(s): My experience.
Ok this usually works for me.
Brew some strong espresso and make the addition of whatever you like to it, such as milk and sugar.
I myself serve it on a tall mug and use partially milk/half coffee and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar.
Drink it and in 5-15 minutes you should be ROCKING AND ROLLING!
Hope I helped and enjoy sculpture the toilet. Source(s): Experience
Exlax or apple juice, or both.
