Why did you become a doctor?

This is for people who are intending on becoming doctors or are doctors. How did you know you want to be a doctor? My adviser told me that med schools charge a lot about that question.
Answers:
I saw an episode of Grey's Anatomy and thought to myself, "Look at all the action those surgeons grasp. That's what I want to do!" Man, was I wrong. I'm so damn tired all the time, I'd rather sleep surrounded by a janitor's closet, than do anything else there....
Okay, this was mine: When I was in giant school, I only ever wanted to be any a doctor or an actor. And I thought maybe I only needed to be a doctor because I loved M*A*S*H. So I figured I'd better be an actor.

*pause for polite laughter*

Then I got bored near that, and I started wondering what else I could do. I couldn't think of anything. So I tried a couple of other things, but nothing seemed close to anything I wanted to do for the rest of my life, and eventually I complained enough that my husband said "Why don't you turn back to school? You always used to tell about going back to school."

"What for?"

"You used to collaborate about being a doctor."

*snort* "You know how long THAT would take?"

"How long?"

"I'd own to go take the science classes for two or three years, then four years contained by med school...say seven years. I'd be *forty* before I be a doctor."

"So how old will you be in seven years if you *don't* go to med institution?"

Huh.

So I did. And now I am.

Hi Sue Lue. The best answer is usually to answer with the truth.

So, why do YOU want to become a doctor?

Best wishes and good luck.
too far in debt at this point not to!

ultimately part of the answer is to oblige people, but what you really need to answer is why medicine and not the plentiful other careers in which you can help citizens. Source(s): 4th year med student
You're supposed to enjoy your own answer for that question. If you ask others this question, then you're not really human being true to your reasoning for wanting to be a doctor.

In short, I'm going to be a physician because I want the intellectual challenge and the lifetime of non-stop medical education. I love science, and I want to combine that with helping others and making a difference surrounded by the world.
