CAN THE DRUG LINSOPRIL AFFECT A PERSONS POTASSIUM LEVERS?

I HAVE BEEN TAKING THIS FOR MY BLOOD PRESSURE AND I HAVE LEG CRAMPS WONDERING IF POTASSIUM MIGHT BE LOW.
Answers:
While I agree with the above answers, I wanted to mention that there is a combination pill that includes lisinopril and also the diuretic call HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide). Check your medication bottle to see if it actually says "lisinopril/hctz", which also comes in the brand moniker of Zestoretic. If that is what you are taking, then yes, it is possible that it can affect your potassium level and bring symptoms such as leg cramps if your potassium is too low. Ask your doctor or nurse. Source(s): I'm a nurse and I'm also a patient taking lisinopril/hctz.
Thank you for the question.

Actually, N, ACE inhibitors such as lisinopril can affect potassium homeostasis by theoretically raise the serum potassium level by virtue of its block on the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone axis.

In patients with run of the mill renal function, however, this effect is seldom clinically signficant.

To answer the question, as N stated, yes it's unlikely that the lisinopril is causing the leg cramps. Source(s): My remote medical training.
Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor and should not cause potassium derangements. If you transport a diuretic that can lower your potassium. Ask your doctor. Source(s): PA
