Nurses... Pros and Cons?

I'm thinking about going to school for nursing, does anyone have any experience contained by the field? Any advice? Pros and Cons to the career?
Answers:
Nursing offer a lot of variety. For hospital work, you can work on one of the inpatient units (med surg, pediatrics, etc.), labor and transport, or in a critical care unit such as intensive fastidiousness, emergency room, neonatal ICU, and so forth. Then there is ambulatory nursing, working in clinics. And home care. And hospice supervision. If you are so inclined, you can become a nurse administrator and manage anything from an individual unit to being the Director of Nursing to one the Hospital Administrator. First and foremost you must want to be a nurse, of course. You should want to serve others and be able to put your ego aside when necessary, but on the other hand still keep the backbone to advocate for patients. A sense of humor greatly helps as powerfully. I spent 23 years as a Navy nurse, which added a great deal of extra variety-- such as being Director of Nursing aboard a hospital ship! Not many civilian job can top that. As far as cons go, the hours can be challenging since hospitals are staffed 24/7; you may need to work holidays as capably. Try to shadow a nurse for a day -- perhaps different nurses who are doing different things. Perhaps a local hospital has such a program. Call the Nursing Office and investigate. We are other looking for good nurses. Source(s): RN
Pro: You actually take thoroughness of patients and spend more time with them than doctors.

Con: Some doctors look down on you.

I'd say go for it though. You can really discern like you're making a difference.:)

Don't think nursing school is flowing though! It's tough stuff.
