Question for Doctors and medical students solely please?
Why does urine flow from the kidney to the bladder instead of flowing in the opposite direction? Basically, what causes urine to flow from the bladder through the urethra?
And NO, gravity isn't the answer I am looking for

The Ureters contain 2 layer of smooth muscle, that undergo intermittent contractions which pass urine along. They also have transitional epithelium which if I remeber right have somthing to do with shape which affects the flow of urine. So you produce urine even if you were upside down.
From the bladder through urethra to outiside is detursor muscle in bladder contracting. Source(s): Med Student
