A press just about medication and the elderly -?
My mother has stage 4 cancer and they are not able to treat her due to the level of fear and number of metastasis. She is now being given 2 mg of Haldol every few hours for anxiety and I have read that Haldol is uncertain in the elderly, do you think that due to her circumstances that this is something that I even need to verbs about?

Honestly, Jaye, I don't conjecture this should be serious concern for your mother, unless her anxiety is not an agitated state of mind or a delirium, which is not an uncommon development in patients near advanced cancer. Haldol can be effective in treating delirum in the elderly within a variety of medical circumstances. However, if your mom's mental state is clear, and if she's is alert & oriented, and she responds appropriately to visual and auditory stimuli, after Haldol may be a little heavy handed, and here are better choices for treating her anxiety. Please, ask your mom's doctors about this. Anxiety and delirium struck my mom in the days before she died. She also have metastatic cancer. Since I was just a teenager consequently, I don't know or remember the specifics of her medical treatment for this problem. If I may ask, is your mom receiving hospice care?
