Why the stomach does not digesting its own tissue?
Answers:
The stomach tissue is prevented from digestion by Hydrochloric acid by thick mucous inside layer. Only when a breach of this lining occurs peptic ulcer is said to develop.
The lining of the stomach contain a number of glands.
Some of these glands are specialized to secrete HCl (hydrochloric acid) to serve digest food. The pH of stomach acid is around 1.
Other glands in the stomach secrete a branch of mucus forming a "slime" layer that coats the stomach and protects the stomach lining from being dissolved by digestive acids. This keep the pH immediately near the stomach lining closer to dull (i.e., around 7).
In this way, the lining of the stomach remains protected but at the same time the stomach can still bury acid to digest food.
There are certain bacteria (Helicobactor pylori) that can permeate the mucus barrier and subsequently erode it away, leaving that part of the stomach exposed to its own acids, resulting within a gastric ulcer.
Mucus
because our stomach contains hydrochloric sour, and mucos which prevents it from catabolizing it self.
