Would this benzo taper agenda be secure?
In the past I've abused Xanax, then Ativan, for 2 years total. I got rotten with a doctor prescribed taper of Ativan, then Klonopin. Well, I've been abuse Xanax again, but this time just for a couple months, and at most 6-7mg a day. The doctor gave me a diary that would have me taking 50 .5mg Klonopin tablets over the course of 28 days, but only prescribed 30 tablets and refuses to fix his mistake. So, here's a diary I've come up with:
Days 1 through 4 - 3 tablets (total 12)
Days 5 through 8 - 2 tablets (total 8, cumulative total 20)
Days 9 through 14 - 1 tablet (total 6, cumulative total 26)
Days 15 through 22 - 1/2 tablet (total 4, cumulative total 30)
Does this schedule sound past the worst and doable?

Let's see. Coming from 7mg of Xanax down to 1.5 mg of Klonopin is going to suck rather viciously for an addict.
This strikes me as a very steep taper, especially using Klonopin. Using Valium this would be more stable, esp. extended over 28-30 days. However, for Xanax, using Valium as a taper can be somewhat problematic due to the extreme differences within potencies. A taper this steep will probably be more on the uncomfortable side than a more conservative one starting at a somewhat higher dose, say 2-2.5mg of Klonopin, and dropping surrounded by .25-.5mg intervals every three to four days.
I cannot for certainty say that this is safe - really no one online can. It may very well not be next to such a high drop at the beginning. You should absolutely phone call your doctor and propose this to him and see what -he- says. Let -him- approve it, as he's given you the meds. Preferably write it out, get a pill organizer and go through it that method. Dropping too fast could put you into seizures, or even a delirium tremens like situation. It requirements to be medically supervised.
And if you want to stay off, look into a 12 step program, or seeing a counselor or addiction medicine specialist to stay sober.
Best of luck to you on this.
