QUESTIONS FOR REGISTERED NURSES?

I was just wondering if bubbles in an I.V. is anything to verbs about. I know that long bubbles are bad but what about 10 tiny bubbles just about 2-3 cm each. what are the complications... and is there anyway to get rid of them once their already in attendance... i know good technique helps.

They generally aren't an issue but it seem as though you have managed to somehow allow a signifcant amount of air into the tube as you be setting things up -- I would not consider a buble of 2-3 cm small. 2-3 mm would not be an issue.
When setting up, make sure the line is clamped off. After you insert the spike into the daypack using aseptic technic, squeeze the drip chamber so that it is about half-way filled with fluid. Hang the backpack, take the end of the tubing off using aseptic technic, and amenable the clamp to allow the solution to flow through. Reclamp the tubing and asepctically replace the cap on the end of the tubing once the fluid has displace the heavens in the tube and runs out.If you have air contained by the tubing, thump the line with your fingers to dislodge the bubbles and then allow the fluid to run, taking the heavens out of the tube.
