Do you enjoy to bissect insects, reptiles, and amphibians within Medical School?

Hello doctors, and doctors-to-be,
I am thinking of either becoming a doctor or an architect( but being an architect more :-) )
My mother is a doctor and a dermatologist and she told me that when she was within Medical School she had to bissect the insects. My brother-in-law who is also a dentist, had to bissect them..
The problem is that I really, really suffer from insectophobia. Last week I was going to shaky from a certain 'view' I saw....
Good luck to all who graduated, and to adjectives who is in Medical School.

Not only that. You dissect cats, animals, and later populace
That goes into the premedical rearing. In your freshman year of medical school, the "elephant in the room" is gross anatomy, and the dissection is on a human, though the smell of formalin tends to detract somewhat from the concept of humanity.
No insects, just a human cadaver.

I dissected insects, worms, a cat and a fetal pig in big school; can't remember dissecting anything in college (but I majored in psych - a smaller amount labs).

We all have things that bother us (I hate needles within eyeballs). You shouldn't see too many insects in med school, although mine have some impressive roaches in one building.
I'm pretty sure its newly cadavers.

I too suffer from "insectophobia"--I can't even look at pictures of bugs.

I am at a summer medical program for high schoolers who are aspiring doctors and we are going to the cadaver lab next week for my Anatomy class!
The simply dissection I had to do was a human cadaver in anatomy lab. Dissecting other species really doesn't donate anything to your medical education. knowing the anatomy of a grasshopper isn't going to help me treat or operate on a person. Source(s): med student
You get to do a wholel lot worse....... you also win cadavers! (human bodies)
No, the lone dissection Medical Students do is human cadavers, and by the time you get to Medical School they may not be doing that any more.
You're going to love Gross Anatomy. lol
