Anesthesiologist or OB/GYN?
IM contemplating between going to school to be either an anesthesiologist or an obstetrician... im a sophomore in HS surrounded by the fall, so im just wondering what career walkway will be best for me.

i would go for anesthesiologist. remember though, ob's are able to do physicals and other nonspecific health care. that may mean a outstandingly, very busy work schedule. anesthesiologists work strictly with anesthetizing their patients or work contained by pain clinics. good for you for choosing to be a doctor! good luck!

I thought I was going to be a pediatrician, but wouldn't do that job for all the money contained by the world (God bless the people who can deal with that misery - I'm newly not one of them).

It really depends on your interest. It looks like you want to deliver babies or want to put people to sleep. Each career way has its own pros and cons. Being a ob/gyn is good if you want to deliver babies and help out pregnant women. Anesthesiologist demure people and place epidurals. You want to be in the medical field so hold your mind open and go to medical school. A lot of relatives have a a particular specialty that want to do, but later redeploy there minds after doing rotations around the hospital.
The down side to these jobs are that they both have dignified malpractice insurance. Ranging from 30,000 to 250,000 per year. They both have about the same pay though. OB/GYN have to deal with pregnant general public in pain and sometimes they blame you for the babies deformities or problems. Anesthesiologist have to keep patients sedated and monitor patients during surgery while maintaining appropriate anesthesia. If you fail to do that and the patients dies consequently its your fault.
Personally, I don't like a annoyed, in spasm pregnant women screaming at me while I try to help them deliver there baby and blame me for near babies problems.
Each career is a good one because they help ancestors. OB/GYN if you want to work with babies and deliver them. Anesthesiologist if you want to intubate, place central lines, and administer sedation/anesthesia. Source(s): knowledge
