Is this a medical emergency?
I have been constipated for three months, despite repeated trips to dr have be fobbed off with laxatives. I am in ghastly pain and being given anti spasm tablets which mask it a bit. My doctor say I can get a cononoscopy but it could take weeks and I'm getting really scared that I hold a blockage. Dr gave me enemas which I took yesterday but they didn;t work, just water coming out. My sister requests to take me to accident anfd emergency tmrw but I'm really scared theyll dispatch me home with more laxatives, My stomach is HUGE. Really hope someone can help.

Go to the emergency room very soon, call 911 if you have too! This needs to be taken care of now! They might do and emergency colonoscopy in the ER. You need to go and get this fix now not tomorrow, today!
You can rest assured that you don't own a complete obstruction of three months' duration. Even if you want to worry yourself with worst-case scenario, that would be a partial obstruction from a tumor, and you'd still be waiting for the colonoscopy. A&E isn't going to have much to offer.
Yes, I think you should turn to emergency and if they try to just pass you off near laxative, be insistent that you need more treatment than that. DO NOT let them ignore your worries!!
When you get that resolved, you might consider not using Splenda any longer, that worked for me, and for my mother.
Constipation for 3 months is absolutely NOT an emergency. You want to continue seeing your own doctor in order to own consistency of care. He knows what he's tried, and what hasn't worked. Not the ER doc. Besides, there's nothing an ER will know how to do for you that your own doc hasn't already tried. You need to call your doc back, relate them the laxatives & enemas aren't working, and see what else they can do or suggest. Yes, you need a colonoscopy. Yes it takes a while (you have to progress on clear liquids, then take the "pre-scope" laxatives, not to mention calendar the darn thing. If you are in THAT much discomfort, you may suggest a CT scan. If there's that much stool in your system, they probably won't know how to see much though.
For the meantime, drink lots of WATER! You might try some hot coffee (the caffeine helps, and the warm liquid irritates your intestines, promoting peristalsis-the movement of your intestines). Good luck! Source(s): paramedic
