The Inside of a Morgue/Mortuary?

What does the exterior and the interior of a morgue look like? What kinds of rooms do they have inside the morgue and how are the bodies stored until that time funeral presentation?

And is there a different between a morgue and mortuary? Listed as synonyms in my dictionary as "A building (or room) where motionless bodies are kept before burial or cremation"
Answers:
The morgue I work in has two substantial walk-in refrigerators, that each store in the range of 15 bodies, respectively on it's individual rolling table. These tables are the exam tables, they are slightly tilted toward the feet where on earth there is a drain. For autopsy, they are rolled up to the sink, so that the drain drains into the sink for blood and body fluids. At the foot, over the sink is a large scale. To the side is a flat nouns over which there is a surgical light. That is where we dissect the organs.

A mortuary is more or smaller amount another word for the funeral home. Many, if not most, have a room in the fund that can be used for embalming, and sometimes for autopsy (mostly in the past). Similar to the morgue, but usually the capacity is one body at a time, whereas the morgue size is four or five autopsies running at the same time.

Does that clarify things for you? If not, add more info, and I will address any additional concerns you own.

Edit: The county morgue, in most places looks no different than any other commercial or medical building. Even has the loading/unloading dock, usually around back, but what we load/unload is not usually department supplies. Funeral homes look like, well, funeral homes.
Those two terms enjoy been used interchangeably in the past, but here's the distinction I see:

Morgues are holding rooms found surrounded by hospitals. Mortuaries are usually places where the bodies are prepared for burial. In a morgue, bodies are kept in slide-in refrigeration units. There may be an autopsy room (which looks similar to an operating room) attached. Sometimes the autopsy stations are just tables in like peas in a pod room as the refrigeration units.

A mortuary is usually a privately-owned business. It is at the mortuary that the fluids are drained from the body and replaced with an embalming fluid. There is also a refrigeration bit. The bodies are washed and dressed and placed in the coffin in the mortuary. Many mortuaries also hold a large room or chapel for the viewing or wake.

In short, morgues are medical and mortuaries are more for the grieving family. Source(s): http://www.tampabay.com/news/localgovern…
