What is a doctor's lifestyle close to? (Hours worked, income, etc)?

My parents keep encouraging me to go to medical school because of the gross and job security. I keep citing that the long hours don't fit my desired lifestyle and I file many doctors I've heard of working dreadful shifts. My parents keep assuring me that I can work as little as I want to and I can even enjoy the standard 40 hour week. I'm pretty skeptical - how true is that? How does being on call factor into your work hours? Something often I hear is that most doctors build plenty of money, but don't have time to enjoy most of it. I think that vary on a case by case basis, but my point is that I reflect medicine is too time consuming of a career for me. Have salaries be dropping among physicians? I've heard that too.

I would like a leisurely and comfortable lifestyle, but specifically working hard early on to prove my merit. In the case of doctors, it seem to me that you start working hard and you keep having to work sturdy throughout your lifetime. Input is appreciated, thanks.

Nobody should pursue a career in drug for money or job security. Trust me, the promise of a high paying situation will not get you through the hurdles of premedical training, the application process, the rigors of medical school, and the horrors of post medical school training.
Thank you for the ask.

I'm sorry to tell you that your parents are idiots.
