Question almost doctors contained by the 1950's?

In movies that show doctors in the 1950's, they wore a round, shinny disc on their forehead with a big head trimming. What was the disc for?
Answers:
This is called a head mirror. It have a parabolic curve and a hole in the centre. It is positioned on the head so, when it is flipped down (there is a hinge on the headband), the hole is right over the doctor's eye.

When it is flipped down, it reflect overhead light forwards, and the eyehole is directed at whatever is illuminated. It be mainly used by otorhinolaryngologists (ear, nose and throat specialists) to get extra wishy-washy down the back of the throat and nose.

Today, it has be replaced by head lights that project rather than reflect pallid. The more powerful ones have a separate light source which is transmitted along a fibre-optic cable.
