Typical side effects of Ultram (tramadol)?

I've found it to be moderately stimulating, potently appetite reducing, and causing some difficulty falling asleep.

Is this typical or am I experiencing idiopathic effects?

Thanks,

Adam S

That sounds about right Adam.
I have personal experience with this also.
I've also noted slight nausea when taken on an desolate stomach.
There can also be withdrawal symptoms if you take it chronically on a daily justification and then suddenly stop it for 24 hours. Source(s): MD Internal medicine/heme/onc
Tramadol have mild opioid activities and most of the opioid activity comes from an active metabolite (O-demethyl tramadol).

Tramadol is also particular to have monoaminergic activity that inhibits
norepinephrine and serotonin (5-HT) reuptake. This is like a SNRI class antidepressant (NOT an SSRI approaching Prozac). The reuptake inhibiting properties block nociceptive impulses (pain impulses). Antidepressant are now used in the treatment of chronic aching.

There is also some slight anti-inflammatory properties to the drug. These are unique to Tramadol and are not like the anti-inflammatory properties of NSAID's (ibuprofen) or corticosteroids (prednisone).

The energy you are have it due to the SNRI antidepressant action. The effective increase in norepinephrine (very similar to adrenaline) and serotonin (both stimulating neurotransmitters) can smoothly provide energy and cause difficulty sleeping. Tramadol is occasionally used off sticky label in the treatment of depression where other drugs have bungled because Tramadol has immediate antidepressant and stimulatory effects.

Even amphetamines have the SNRI capability like Tramadol. But amphetamine does significantly more.

I hold taken Tramadol
This is not at all uncommon. I am a toxicologist and as a consequence all drug compounds are part of my education. Also, I filch Tramadol myself every day for a bad knee that I cannot get hold of operated on until I finish my fellowship.

Just as all drugs, different people will experience different systemic effects. Tramadol is not resembling most of the other opiod agonists. Most painkillers are just that, opiod agonists, meaning they bind to specific opiod receptors in the brain to evolution the way the brain recieves the pain signal. As a result of that mechanisim of action, abundant people will feel altered in someway, but usually experience euphoric effects, sedation, dizziness, sluggish, etc. However, Tramadol is both an opiod agonist as well as an SSRI (Selective Seritonin Reuptake Inhibitor), and because of this addition of the SSRI, many patients will experience a notion that is very similar to an amphetimine. Loss of appetite, sleep disturbances, sleep disorders, the whole nine yard. So you should not be too alarmed. (I actually respond in a similar way as you, however after taking the drug for awhile, those issues hold decreased, and I have found some ways to help eat up the side effects without using more drugs in combo).

Basically just information that this drug you should in NO way stop taking suddenly. Even if you have singular been on it a few weeks, you will have to ween off of it, because if you do not, you will experience speedy heart rate, severe tremor, and if you have any pre-exisiting cardiac issues then this can be an extremley bad situation. So, if you cannot tolerate the side effects, after you need to ween off slowly. I would consult your perscribing doctor and discuss it with him. Depending on how long you enjoy been on the drug and how long you will need to be on the drug, then you may have need of to consider a dose adjusment, drug change, or he/she may reccommend giving your body more time to adjust to the drug.
