Can you sue a doctor for disfiguring you during majority surgery?

I had a bowel obstruction and resection. The sutures didn't hold and I became septic. Instead of a 3 to 5 light of day hospital stay, I was in there 20 days and almost died. Then, the surgeon moved out me with two large pouched protruding from my abdomen so that I cannot wear shirts tucked contained by or a bathing suit, etc. He says, I will have to go to a plastic surgeon and pay packet. Do I have any recourse agains the doctor?
Answers:
why is this in medicine have nothing to do with medicine you should hold put it in law and ethics so you could gain people who actually know the right answer instead of peoples opinions.
depends where you live, at a "wild" guess id read out america... so go for it. they shouldnt leave a job partially done, but haivng said that builders leave your house in a mess doctors should probable be able to bring away with it too
Probably not, though you can investigate further if you wish. Those are complications, risks inherent in the operation. A impossible outcome is not a cause to be upset at the doctor, since he didn't give you the bowel obstruction, and the diversion of the bowel to your abdominal wall be necessary to save your life. Unless there's a great deal more to your situation than you included in your post, your attitude towards the surgeon should be one of gratitude.
