Colonoscopy sedation ?
I have had a flexible sigmoidoscopy and found it painless but uncomfortable, I in a minute have to have a colonoscopy for which I will be sedated. What exactly is the sedation and can you feel anything at adjectives during the procedure?
Answers:
I have never been sedated when I had my colonoscopies. Others I know hold been sedated. Regardless of whether or not you get sedated all will report you the prep the day before is the worst part. Most adjectives doctors want you to take some form of a PEG based laxative which I have be tolf is like drinking a gallon of slime or antifreeze. What I use to prep has been recall so I am going to have serious issues in a couple of years since I refuse to hold PEG based laxatives.
I know that when I had MY colonoscopy they gave me versed before I go in, to relax me. Then on top of that, they gave me demerol. For awhile, I be watching it on the screen, and all of a sudden I shot up (awkwardly, because I was lying on my not here side) and screamed "Ow, oh my God, ow, that hurts" - then they gave me more demerol, and after that, I don't remember a entity.
You should be fine, best of luck! :) Source(s): My own experience
Depends on who is sedating you. Non-anesthesiologists/CRNAs are limited in what they can give, so you failure up getting too much of stuff that isn't as good, and taking a long time to recover, or you're uncomfortable but forget most of it.
My patients sleep soundly, stir up quickly and go home less than an hour after walking within the door.
Everyone is different, though. Some people do fine with no drugs at all, others call for enough to drop a horse just to keep them on the bed. Source(s): I anesthetize something like 500 patients/yr for colonoscopies.
Hey Sweetie,
My daughter who is afraid of most everything has had two colonoscopies and she said they put you out and she couldn't be aware of a thing. I don't know what the medication is they used on you, but you can go home very soon after. Please don't be afraid because my daughter to hold the second one with no fear told me a lot. Good luck, Honey!!
