Effects of tramadol 50mg?

I injured my foot a days ago and although I don't believe its fractured it hurts like crazy. My cousin had some tramadol that he had be giving to his dog before it died and was throwing it out but instead let me hold them. Anyway how many 50mg tramadol should I take for the pain. My cousin said he hear they can get you high, how many does that bring because I intend to take these primarily before work since I am on my feet the entire time and don't want a buzz while I am at work.

Oh and only to clarify I want an answer to the above question not a lecture on drugs.

50-100mg is a standard dose. start with 50mg- more could receive you drowsy. max daily dose is 400mg.
fyi- a foot injury + having to be on your feet is going to be some difficult cramp to relieve. besides the tramadol, you should start anti-inflammatories also. elevate/ice as much as possible Source(s): retired icu nurse, accident prone, been taking tramadol for years.
tramadol has terrifically weak narcotic activity, it acts more resembling prozac, and my own prejudice is that marketing is what makes it so popular and abused. It has convulsion risks that regular narcotics do not have at mundane doses.

It should not be mixed with alcohol or the risk of seizures increases.

400mg/day is the maximum adult dosage, BUT i.e. ideally attained by starting out at a 25mg daily dose and working up from there, this minimizes the seizure risks. For those adults beside immediate pain relief desires an oral dose of 50 to 100 mg every 6 hours for a maximum of 400 mg daily dose

Another thing I don't like just about the drug is that it promotes tumors in lab animals, you don't see that with regular narcotics. I would not take it for this pretext alone.
