Right Shoulder Pain... Think the Doctor misdiagnosed...?
I had a work accident in the Prison I work within, involving inmates and myself and a 9 foot fall to a metal ground. I landed on my shoulder (right side) and have be out of work since 1/9/09.
The assessment was a tear in my right ac combined. Now I'm no doctor but the physical therapy is not helping me and lately the pain is so intense i get dizzy, headache, and get sick in the stomach.
Firstly, as of now the doctors write down is only good till March 28th. I know I need more time, I cant move the shoulder at adjectives and the pain gets so intense I cant think. Working within a MAX-A Prison I need to be at 100% for myself and fellow Officers....
But what could it be? The Xrays showed nothing... and the Therapist wants me to take a MRI... Any ideas?
Answers:
need to get MRI done, maybe rupture of rotor cup
Is it possible there is nerve damage? They can check for that.
Start with the MRI. That should reveal soft tissue damage more accurately than an X-ray.
Shoulders are incredibly complex, so its very difficult to say what you're particular injury might be. However, the dizziness and headache may be a clue: its possible that the injury has caused spasms in the muscle connecting your collarbone and head/neck and the muscles subsequent to it. This muscle (the SCM) runs right over your carotid artery, which runs parallel to the Vagus nerve, and connects to the head. Spasm or tension surrounded by this muscle therefore can lead to dizziness (impeded blood flow to the head), Headache (pressure on the base of the skull) and Nausea (pressure on the Vagus nerve). Does your nouns feel stiff? This could be the culprit. If so, treatments to loosen the muscle(s), such as therapeutic massage, may be appropriate.
