Friend took 40 hits of inhaler (albuterol)?
A friend of my brothers just called and told him that he took 40 puffs of his albuterol inhaler TO GET HIGH. I'm an asthmatic and two puffs gets my heart race, I'm sure 40 is enough to cause a heart attack, or death.
Do you presume there could be any long term effects from doing that?

Albuterol inhaler canisters contain a propellant, those types of propellants if too much is inhaled make the heart sensitive to heart stimulants (like albuterol), that can lead to deadly heart arrythymias.
The oral inhalation/per puff from the canisters is 90 micrograms, and 40 puffs is equal to 3.6 mg, there are 2 mg oral tablets and 4 mg long release tablets.
If I read in the broadsheet that someone died from doing this I would not be too surprised, neither would I be surprised if 10 people did this and no one died. It depends on the person's heart, and other factors.

That's roughly the equivalent of three or four back-to-back nebulizer treatments, so if your asthma's ever been bad enough for you to be hospitalized, it should be moderately easy for you to relate. That's a lot of beta agonist, and it may drive the serum potassium dangerously low, so it's stupid to try outside a hospital, but by the time he's told you roughly speaking it, the adverse events that might happen probably already have.
He should be ok, but he is an idiot. Don't let him end up within my ER
In response to your additional information, that's because most people who write for the medicine paragraph are doctors, nurses and other health professionals who know what they are talking about.
I hear somebody earlier telling someone to go to their ER because they enjoy strep throat in another section!
And to put your mind at ease - if anything be to happen, it would have done by now, salbutomol (albuterol) works almost instantaneuously, any effects on the heart or lungs would enjoy been seen just as instantly...Just don't permit him do it again.
