How do you subtract this compounded drug?
Can you calculate these?:
Rx: 4% Salicylic Acid
QSAD Nizoral Shampoo 150 ml
1) How many grams of Salicylic Acid will you use to make this compound?
2) How tons milliliters of Nizoral shampoo will you use to make this compound?
Answers:
c k, I hate to disagree with a pharmacist in the region of compounding a prescription, but
1. You haven't answered the question, which was how you did the calculation.
2. You hold got the calculation wrong anyway.
A 4% solution is 4 g/100 ml, so the 150 ml needs to contain 4 x 150/100 = 6 g salicylic bitter, not 6 mg. The solubility of salicylic acid in water is merely 0.2 g/100 ml, so you are going to have to start from salicylate crystals. The density of crystalline salicylate is 1.2, so 6 g will have a volume of 6/1.2 ml and the rest will be Nizoral Shampoo. (It will obviously be a suspension and you hold to tell the user to shake the bottle.) Source(s): http://www.inchem.org/documents/icsc/ics…
Use 6mg or 0.006 grams salicylic acid. and 144ml of nizoral shampoo. Source(s): pharmacist
