What do medical students inject themselves beside?

i've heard that mediacal students practice injecting each other. like, so when they become doctors, they very soon where and how to do the procedure.
what do they inject themselves with? i mean, they cant only just use an empty siringe right? injecting air into your bloodstream is lethal, and they wouldnt put some medication within either. so what do they use?
Answers:
I'm sure they just use saline. It wouldn't be safe to use anything else. Hope this helps! =)
We started venipuncture with blood draws on fellow students. For injections, we started near B12 shots on each other.

There wasnt a lot of practicing before we graduate to actual patients... We had to do 3 successful blood draws before we could move on to injections. And we have to do at least 4 out of 5 injections perfectly (including clean enclosed space technique, etc.) to pass the practical portion of venipuncture. Presuming we also passed the theory/written exam, we then moved on to real patients. Source(s): Naturopathic Doctor
When I was in med institution a million years ago, we drew blood from each other ONE time, I think it was to check if our Hep B vaccination worked.

Every other learning experience was done on real patients. I already know how to draw blood when we did it in med school, because I was on the morning phlebotomy squad to earn some cash.

Other schools may do things differently, but in broad, we learn on real patients - everything from injections to catheters to endotracheal tubes to surgery.
we just did saline and drew blood on each other...
those are the moments you either trust your friend or see their shaking paw with a sharp object coming at you and decide to dive up and claim bathroom run....aww the memories
In PA institution we used fruit (I think it was plums) to practice intramuscular injections and dummies (like the ones used for CPR practice) for subcutaneous injections.
We drew blood on each other once. Source(s): PA surgical critical trouble
