Can i help yourself to antacid previously an operation?
I'm all booked in for a c section tomorrow morning and I've be getting terrible reflux through out the pregnancy.
The doctor says nothing to guzzle or drink before the op but I know it's going to be a nightmare trying to sleep with no antacid.
Do u think I can catch away with a few sips??
Why do they say absolutely nil by mouth?
Answers:
Nothing by mouth because they want your stomach hollow for surgery so that if you throw up you wont aspirate & burn you lungs. Are you in a hospital yet? They will give you IV anti-acid medicine(something that blocks hydrogen ions) earlier the surgery. Perhaps you can ask for some now.
