What's a poisonous dose of OTC sleeping pills?
Firstly, I'm not suicidal. The reader is probably skeptical and would like to know why I am asking this, so here's my story...
In HS I was ignorant around the fact that you can die from sleeping pills. One day I took 12 (or was it 11)? sleeping pills. As you own deduced, I'm still alive. I don't medical issues as far as I know. Looking back at it now though, I wonder why nought bad happened to me that night. Unfortunately I don't know what compassionate of pills they were. I wonder if I lived perhaps because they were OTC (I'm not sure if they be but I think they would have had to hold been or I would probably not have lived). Would 12 OTC sleeping pills kill a usual person (5'11" - 150lbs)? Also would a doctor be able to tell me if I tatty my body severely by running some sort of test(s)?

OTC in the UK probably means st. johns wort (a MAOI) or valerian. red val. contains Valerenic acid which is an anti-convulstant (LD50 is 3g/kg). St. Johns wort would at worst bequeath you some serotonin syndrome at massive doses.
diphenhydramine is another common one (Anti-histamine), ld50 is 500mg/kg - again quite alot.
zolpidem is not otc, but 12 is not going to do you much harm contained by the long run (ld50 is again over half a gram / kg of body mass). the immediate threat is from respiratory depression. same threat as from benzo's
a hepatic function test could be perform, but theres little point. if you didn't die then, and its been a while since, you will recover fully; its unlikely you did defile to your self in the first place. if you felt unwell soon after or even upto 4 weeks after, see your doctor.
