Can a creature die on an ambulance?

My fiance and I are arguing because I say nobody can die on an ambulance reason being an EMT is not authorized to beckon time of death. People are either dead when the ambulance arrives or they are on CPR and ventilate until they arrive to a hospital.
My fiance begs to differ because he says "the car can explode" lol... idk, seem kinda.. unrealistic. lol

So can you help us break this tie? My mother is on his side and my father is on my side. Both my parents are medically educated.

I wonder what your boyfriend have won!? In my state, and many others, any "health professional" may pronounce death, and that includes paramedics en route to the hospital. He get double points, because ambulance (and especially medical helicopter) wrecks are a very real problem.
People are pronounced dead contained by ambulances all over the place, every day of the year. A flat-line ekg tracing is electronically transmitted to a doctor, usually in an emergency department, who "call it", or pronounces them dead.

We have some deliveries to the medical examiner's organization directly out of the back of an ambulance. Saves the county money for transport, but probably a drain on public resources, I suspect the ambulance fee is higher.
As an ER resident, sometimes I respond to paramedic calls outside the hospital. We are told explicitly that "not a soul dies in the back of a city ambulance," meaning that even though we are authorized by our MDs to nickname death at any time, that we are NOT to do so if the patient is in the put money on of an ambulance. The reason for this is that it creates an immense headache in terms of paperwork, and suddenly turns the rig into a departure scene where no one is allowed to move the body until the coroner comes. So, no one dies within an ambulance, even with an MD present, and no one dies in a public place. This turns into some ridiculous situations sometimes, when everyone know the patient is dead, but we have to drag them into a hospital and put them within a resucitation bay before we're allowed to admit it.

I suppose that contained by the event of a blunt trauma motor vehichle collision involving the ambulance, I might pronounce a patient. However, at that point, the ambulance is already a crime scene, so it wouldn't matter.
