Does getting blood drawn hurt im startled of needles?

Doesnt hurt at all, if you dont close to needles i advise you not to watch it!

The only thing I would add is to not reward attention to the preparations -- the tech will assemble various pieces of equipment and sometimes make a production out of it, which might serve only to increase your anxiety. Look across the room, at the floor, at your right knees, and let them do their thing. They will apply a rubbery sort of tube on your arm to make the vein get nice and puffy (do you like my technical patois?), clean the area with a small wipe of alcohol or betadine, and then get the sample.
I am a nurse but I categorically hate to get stuck myself. I have no problem getting any sort of speciman or performing any number of invasive procedures on patients, but I completely hate to have my blood drawn. Best of luck to you! Source(s): RN and big baby sometimes

It depends on who is drawing the blood. I get it done often and sometimes I don't feel anything, other times a pinch but just for a second and then you can't feel anything. Don't look and be sure to mention that you are nervous- I think they sort an extra effort to be sensitive if they know you have a fear. God bless and righteous luck ;0)

Being scared of needles is very common and zilch to be embarrassed about. Just tell them when you jump for the draw so they can be sure to reassure you and warn you when they're about to start, and take someone next to you to hold your (other) hand if you think that might help you. Source(s): MD.
To be honest, it only stings a little when they first put the needle within, and it feels kinda funky when they pull it out. I might sound resembling a chicken..lol..Im 21 years old, I always hold someones hand (if its the nurse or whoevers next to me) and I never look. (Im scared of needles to!! haha)
I remember feeling the same way as you. I own a huge fear of needles! I suggest bringing someone with you, so you can sqeeze their hand, or use a stress orb. I'm 17 years behind the times and have had my blood drawn at least 50 times within a matter of 3 years. It's totally normal to be nervous the first time, but it honestly does not hurt one bit. My mom other asked for the "butterfly needle" for me. It's the pediactric needle and the needle is way smaller than a regular hypodermic so if you're really nervous, ask for that. But not once in my whole energy have I ever watched the process. I've never seen the nozzle, I've never seen the blood escape my arm. Just don't watch and you'll be fine. Holding someone's hand help a lot too!! Also, drink a lot of liquids past getting your blood drawn (water would be good) so it can make the veins in your arms more noticiable so the human being drawing your blood can find an easy spot to take the blood from. Good luck, it honestly doesn't hurt at all :) only a pinch!
