TTC #2, wondering what character of effects Melatonin can do to the reproductive system?
I'm a regular person taking melatonin to help me sleep at night, I solitary take 2 lil pills which isn't very much. My husband and I have be trying to get pregnant for a lil over 7 months now. I was reading today on the internet that melatonin can do incapacitate to the reproductive system. What kind of effects can it do? Is this one of the reasons why I can't get pregnant?

Hi Amanda. A life-size body of scientific research suggests that melatonin is a very safe supplement. For example, surrounded by the scientific paper linked below, the medical researchers at the University of Texas verbs that melatonin has a "high safety profile" and a "virtual denial of toxicity".

So, what is the source of what you have been "reading on the Internet"? Are you reading actual scientific papers or merely someone's "opinion"?
Below is another link to another scientific paper by more medical researchers at the Univ. of Texas. The title of the serious newspaper is: "Melatonin and reproduction revisited.". They state the following:
1) "...melatonin easily protects the fetus from oxidative damage, as well as the protective tissues and placenta."
2) "Given the uncommonly low toxicity of melatonin, clinical trials are warranted to document the protection by melatonin against pathophysiological states of the reproductive system..."
3) "...the beneficial effects of melatonin in improving the outcomes of within vitro fertilization and embryo transfer should be further tested and exploited."

If we "compare" the dangers of melatonin to the dangers of ANY PRESCRIPTION SLEEP MEDICATION - at hand is NO comparison. Prescription sleep drugs are very dangerous. The medical literature is quite consistent within stating that melatonin has very low risk of toxicity or adverse effects (used properly and in proper doses).
Finally, "2 lil pills" is probably a LOT of melatonin. Most "drug store and strength food store" brands of melatonin are 3 to 5 mg per pill. Most medical research recommends 1 to 2 mg doses for optimum effects. So, how much are you actually taking?
I hope this info. wasn't too complicated to be helpful for you. Best wishes and obedient luck.
