Doctor or pharmacist?

Being a doctor was my number 1 choice of career. But as I was thinking roughly speaking it, I don't know if I can take 12 years of school to become a doctor. So I was thinking roughly becoming a pharmacist, because their schooling is a lot shorter but they still get payed a decent ammount of money. But I love like mad of the aspects of being a doctor like having your own practice, dealing near anatomy and all that. Anatomy is what I find interesting. I love the hands on experience of helping people. But I really really don't ponder I can take the school! Anyone have any suggestions or guidance? I can handle 6-8 years of school but that is it. I want a profession in the medical field. Thanks!

I agree with WAH: categorically check out dentistry. With pharmacy, not that it isn't a great career path, but some find it very boring if you don't love the chemistry and everything losing it (there isn't much anatomy involved in pharm).

With medicine, it is a long road, but I think you'd savour it if you really like anatomy and helping people, plus their salaries are top pit, especially specialists.

However, Dentistry is the middle-road. 8 years of schooling, good-excellent salary (depending on location, practice, etc.), hands on patient comfort, anatomy IS involved (especially if you eventually go into Maxillofacial surgery or something) and the hours are great too.
I say dance for being a doctor. You need the same amount of time to gain your doctorate for both. For your M.D, you need to do your intern and residency but that will give you critical experience. If you want the hands on experience, unquestionably go for medical.

But, I also want to recommend the awesomeness of dentistry. I start dental school next year and without doubt love it. I was in your situation where I be looking at medical, dental, optometry, and pharmacy at the same time. Dentistry requires the 8 years, like an MD, but not the residency. And you make other of money with your own practice. I say do some shadowing, see what you like. If you do what you relish, then a few years would seem insignificant if you are going to do it for decades.
The best pharmacist, surrounded by my opinion, would be highly technical contained by the field of chemistry. The ability to fit a specific chemical into the human system requires huge understanding of structure and function of the instinctive systems, and then the difficult interpolation using the available commercial pharmaceuticals. With a good eye, you can see the natural analogs the artificial drug be derived from and the expected results. Take buproprion for example, the structure is a lot like amphetamine, ephedrine, adrenaline, and dopamine, but nothing approaching Prozac or other SSRIs structures. Your knowledge of structure tells you this pharmaceutical will likely conduct yourself different and you are prepared to tell the patient so. And it does; its considered an atypical antidepressant, but you didn't need to know that, because your an awesome chemist (I presume in the UK pharmacists are called Chemists).
The General Practitioner has given tons years of his life in laborious settings allow them the outcome of opinion. The asshat get pretty big by that time and damage is done, reflected in conventional medical practice: drink what you want, drugs are good, surgery is better, and dollar signs equal my Porsche. Its up to the pharmacist to correct Dr. Asshat.

But if you love anatomy, how about dentists? They are the mechanics of the trade. Love to use their hands. Source(s): Associated near docs. Pops was a DDS.
