Answers:
A coma is mostly understood to be a state of unconsciousness from which a patient cannot be awakened. While comatose, the patient is unable to engage within voluntary actions, does not exhibit a cycle of waking and sleeping, and does not register any reaction to any type of stimulus. Essentially, the comatose tolerant remains alive, but is completely unable to relate to the world at large.

I hope this answers your question. Source(s): I be in a coma 22 years ago. The only memory I have of that time is occasionally audible range voices. I remember they sounded distant and I couldn't always understand what they be saying. That is to say, I recognized the words, but didn't relatively understand their meaning. But for the most part you do stir up feeling as though you have been within a deep, dreamless sleep.
