Is it appropriate for a doctor to attend the get up or funeral of one of his/her patients?

Assuming, of course, that the doctor had a strong and close relationship with the merciful and family.

Your thoughts?

i think so, especially if you had an extended dr./pt relatioship(mo/yr) Source(s): rn
Of course. In many communities, a ingrained doctor is considered a member of the community first, and a physician second, anyway. I can't really think of any reason to imagine otherwise, either, unless the doctor and patient chose a course of action at the running out that was strongly opposed by much of the family.
Depends on the situation.
People come, folks go.
Attending our patent's funeral is just paying respect to the deceased. It is positively appropriate.
Sure. Two of my former patients were killed within Iraq. Those were the toughest.
Absolutely. Unless said doctor was the explanation of the fatal event.... :)
I guess that depends on what kind of doctor you are and what relationship you had to the forgiving. On occasion, I have had to autopsy a police officer I know, and am tempted to attend the services.

However, based on advice I received during fellowship, I don't. That is because too masses people know that you know more than they do about the situation and the injuries, and the pathologist becomes people's focus of interest, when it should be the memories of the lifeless person.

I don't particularly expect to see the treating doctor at the services, unless they were a outstandingly close family friend, more than just the doctor. As a matter of reality, it might feel a little creepy.
Absolutely.
I don't feel it's improper for Doctors to attend a patients funeral. I know some Drs feel it is inappropriate, but I have never really implied why. I suppose a Dr might feel that if he attends one, he should attend them all and it becomes awkward.
